“一、志願隊全體隊員必須佩帶武器；任何人不得私自離開機場，命令建立空襲警報系統；嚴防敵人飛機侵襲；”

“二、從今天起，實行全面燈火管制並派出警戎人員。入夜後，將分派飛行員擔任值勤。”　。。

第十五章（２）偵察棟曼機場

基地瀰漫著一種緊張地氣氛，隊員們人人自危，大有一觸即發的危險。韋維爾將軍為他們派來十幾名廓爾喀士兵，以加強保衛。幾天後，有幾個和尚打扮的人試圖闖過警戒線，廓爾喀士兵不得不對天鳴槍，這才嚇退他們。這件事在基地流傳了好長時間，最後竟變成幾名手持衝鋒槍的歹徒襲擊機場，還打死了幾個百姓和兩個廓爾喀士兵。

第二天，司令部就為每個隊員配備了手槍，連同一個氧氣面罩和鋼盔。不久，空襲警報系統也建立起來了。但它不但沒給隊員帶來安全，反倒使他們生活更加恐慌和不安。
