歐內斯特·海明威（1899—1961），20世紀美國著名小說家，生於伊利諾伊州芝加哥市郊。他的作品風格獨具魅力，在世界範圍內產生了廣泛影響。1926年發表的《太陽照樣升起》是海明威獲得聲譽的第一部長篇小說，併成為“迷惘的一代”的代表作品。一戰給海明威留下了難以癒合的心靈創傷，併為他創作舉世名作《永別了，武器》提供了素材。1952年，中篇小說《老人與海》出版，轟動文壇，並使他獲得了諾貝爾文學獎。
